The Economist reports this month that Ex Virginian Governor and a possible Democratic candidate for president in 2008, Mike Warner recently flew into Second Life using a virtual reality avatar body to visit with Hamlet Au a full time Second Life reporter.
Second Life is a virtual reality world where more and more people, businesses and now presidential candidates are meeting and working together in an online fantasy world. Second Life was created as a virtual real estate web service and the company leases virtual reality space to people and companies that wish to develop a building, house, or even a floating island in the sky. Thus far that has been no indication that a virtual presidential debate might be in the making, but Presidential Candidates should be warned that they should get ready for this new communication medium before they get Nixoned out of a Presidential race by a younger hipper opponent skilled at communicating in the new environment, like Kennedy was on TV during the 1960 race.
