Attorney seeks $2m from 9/11 widow

After the events on 9/11 a woman married to a man killed on 9/11 had an attorney that sought to claim damages on her behalf.

The government setup the Victims compensation Fund soon after and the fund did not provide funding for attorneys of victims. The attorney took the woman to court for $2,000,000 as a result.

She retained simmons jannace & stagg to represent her in defense against her previous attorney.

Simmons Jannace & Stagg were able to show the federal courts where the lawsuit was entered that the Victims Compensation Fund did not provide protections for attornies attempting to litigate actual victims for their compensation fee.

The Federal courts agreed in part and referred the issue to the State Court for review, and pending that decision the Federal courts left their options open to review the case again in the future.

So in some strange way justice seems to have been painfully served here. The Victims Compensation Fund provided funding for the widow, and by accident, planning, luck or the intelligence of Simmons, Jannace & Stagg protected the widow from her original attorney.
