The War on Oil

President Bush in his hour of desperation to find some kind of popular support to cling to is finally starting to notice that Americans want to go to war.  They want to go to war with oil specifically.

After several years of paying too much at the pump, they are finally starting to warm up to the idea that being dependent on foreign oil is bad for them and by extension the economy.  Unfortunately, Richard Nixon has left a wake of destruction in his path following his initiative to rid the US of oil dependence within 7 years.  That was over 30 years ago and obviously never happened.

Bush kind of gets it, but he is so far in bed with big oil as an industry that he is having a difficult time biting the hand that has fed him so long in order to gnaw his way out of his self imposed Iraqi shackles and save his own skin.

It just might be possible that he will finally come around and the US will experience a strong push towards a real solution to our energy needs, maybe including solar energy or biofuels or even hydrogen fuel cells.  Regardless Americans are starting to stand up and fight Oil themselves and that grass roots shift is resonating in Washington.
