After jumping into the race then out of the race, hemming and hawing over whether to run and what the public wants him to do, Senator Joseph Biden announced that he will run for President in 2008.
Almost simultaneously Senator Biden made statements that were quick to alienate Senator Barack Obama and possibly African-American voters as he described Senator Barack Obama in a way that sounded condescending to African Americans.
“I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” he said.
If its not condescending, it is most decidedly a back handed compliment. I personally choose to interpret it as both and possibly worse. I would offer Senator the Biden the benefit of the doubt for a slip up of words, however I will not as he is running for the office of President and in this day and age we need a leader that doesn't have barriers in their mind between the races.
We need a leader that sees all people as people and doesn't subject their views to a filter of race first. As such, I suspect that Senator Biden's comments will be his rapid undoing.
