Don't get to Conspiratorial About Sen Johnson just yet

Democratic Senator Johnson of South Dakota's recent illness and surgery today sparked off a firestorm of political speculation about the balance of power in Washington.  Democrats hold a Senate majority of 51 to 49 (plus 1 Cheney vote).  If Senator Johnson were to die or resign the Republican Governor of South Dakota could choose a replacement and that replacement would be a Republican.

Fortunately latest reports indicated that the Senator is responding after brain surgery 24 hours earlier.  he listed in critical but stable condition.  The surgery appears to be a success and the Senator is responding to touch and voice.  Hopefully, now that he is responding and seems to be through the toughest hurdle, he can be left to recovery in peace and continue his work in congress with out any further speculation or hints of conspiracy.  It was initially thought that the Senator had a stroke, but subsequently doctor's have indicated that he suffered from a congenital malformation present since birth that resulted in bleeding into the brain.
