In Maine Wal-Mart is forced to Upgrade Roads Before Supercenter Can be Opened for Business

You can't say that Bangorians don't learn from the past.  Local city officials and the Maine Department of Environmental Protection have required that Wal-Mart must complete road improvements prior to being allowed to open their doors for business as scheduled in 2008.

Bangor learned from their mistakes apparently.  In 2005 Bangor allowed another shopping center to open before road improvements were completed and the gridlock resulting from the new traffic redirected to the shops was a price to high to pay again.

As a person that is surrounded by Wal-Mart Supercenters on 3 sides within a 5 mile radius, I know what a Supercenter can do to create new gridlock in an area.  Personally, I have only one way out of my community now and that's in the direction away from the three existing Wal-Mart Supercenters.

Don't let Wal-Mart coral you in!
