Weekday Gridlock Avoided as Protesters in Manilla plan weekend Protest

In the Phillipines a demonstration of hundreds of thousands of people is expected, however the event will occur on the weekend instead of during the week as was the case in Beirut and India this week.

Political and religious leaders in the Catholic church are pulling together their supporters to oppose President Gloria Arroyo's campaign to change the countries constition ot a unicameral parliamentary style system.  A weekend demonstration may be smart for many reasons.

  1. It will allow more working class people to attend without harming their own incomes.
  2. Businesses will not be harmed during the week from a fall off or blockade of business thus enabling the potential for businesses to ally themselves with the President's opposition and still vote their pocket book.
  3. More headlines will likely to be garnished from events on the weekend when high profile news stories around the world are less likely to compete.
