New York City in Gridlock over Congestion Pricing and Commuter Tax Potential

Mayor Bloomberg came under some fire after a recent radio show with John Gambling.  The discussion came around to the concept of commuter pricing a strategy where discounts are given to people that live in the city and others commuting from a growing radius outside of the city get less of a discount.

Bloomberg showed himself to be on the fence on the topic but the argument will continue.  A commuter tax existed in NY for almost 33 years and ended in 1999.  Many similar taxes exist in other areas including Atlanta and London as examples.  Some are established by the city, or the county but Bloomberg argues that this would have to be imposed by the state.

He came under fire for avoiding obvious disparities in some of his other arguments.  He would argue for mass transit to be used by people in the city, however with a 100% commuter discount in place for city residents they have no incentive to take mass transit.
